Bank Of canada likely to keep interest rates Unchanged: uBS recommends long aUDCAD Position

On Wednesday, the Bank of Canada is expected to leave its interest rates unchanged, which UBS believes will create a favorable environment for further weakening of the USDCAD rate. At the same time, the bank sees an attractive opportunity in the AUDCAD currency pair and recommends opening a long position.

  • Relative increase in prices for extracted minerals compared to energy:Australia is a major exporter of minerals, while Canada is more dependent on the energy sector. Rising mineral prices and falling energy prices will favor the AUD relative to the CAD.
  • Smoother domestic growth in Australia:Robust domestic growth in Australia also supports the strengthening of the AUD.

Additionally, UBS does not expect the Canadian dollar (CAD) to strengthen significantly in the coming months. This comes as the Bank of Canada is likely to maintain a cautious policy on interest rates given global economic uncertainty.

UBS Recommendation:

Considering the above, UBS recommends opening a long position on AUDCAD at 0.89 with a target of 0.92 and a stop loss of 0.8750. This strategy allows investors to take advantage of AUDCAD's potential growth while limiting exposure to adverse developments.
